Alaska Pacific University Dog Policy

General Statement of Responsibility: Dog owners are responsible for the behavior and care of their animals on all properties owned by Alaska Pacific University. Dogs must be on leashes and under control at all times on the APU campus. Owners of pets brought to campus are directly responsible for injuries and damages caused by their animals. Alaska Pacific University reserves the right to prohibit any animal from campus property.

Licensing and Registration: All dogs are required to be licensed with the Municipality of Anchorage. All students, staff, faculty, and visitors must register their pets to make it possible to match animals with owners. Registration can be accomplished by visiting the Grant Hall Information Desk during business hours.

Cleaning Up: Pet owners must clean up after their dogs.

Animals in Campus Buildings: Pets are prohibited from campus buildings with the exception of animals needed to assist people with disabilities. Pets are not allowed in student housing units. Exceptions to this policy require the approval of the President's Council.

Humane Treatment: Owners are expected to treat pets humanely at all times while on campus.

Ski trails: From April 1st through October 1st dogs will be allowed on the A.P.U. Jim Mahaffey Ski Trail system. From October 1st through April 1st dogs are prohibited from trails designated for skiers only. Dogs are allowed on designated multi-use trails.

Consequences: Violations of the pet policy may result in warnings, requests for immediate removal of a pet from the campus, or referral of the pet to actions by the MOA.
