Housing and Residence Life

2008 Summer Housing Information

Please read through the information regarding Summer Housing at APU below carefully. Keep in mind that all requests for Summer Housing are due back to the Residence Life Office no later than April 4, 2008. You can access the Summer Housing Application. from this site, or by picking them up from the Residence Life Office in the Atwood Center.

End of the Year Closings

Spring Semester housing contracts officially end on Sunday, April 27, 2008. Any residents needing to stay past this date must complete & submit a Summer Housing Application. Any residents found staying on campus without signing up (i.e. staying with a friend who has requested to stay on campus ) will be charged with an additional $50 fine in addition to the regular summer housing rate.

Summer Housing at APU will ONLY be available in Segelhorst Hall. North and South Atwood are used each year for conference groups in the summer months, and the University Village houses will be under renovation and not available for student use. Students taking expedition classes for May Block and only need housing for a few days before and after traveling should come by the Residence Life Office to coordinate special arrangements if possible.

Priority

Students who are returning to live on-campus in Fall 2008 and need housing for the ENTIRE SUMMER will be given higher priority than students needing only temporary or short term housing. Because space for summer is limited, if we cannot accommodate everyone needing to stay for the entire summer, we will make housing assignments based on the following priority system:

  1. Students taking classes for BOTH May Block and Summer Sessions AND working at APU or on school related projects.
  2. Students taking classes for BOTH May Block and Summer Sessions.
  3. Students taking classes for Summer Session only AND working APU or on school related projects.
  4. Students taking classes for Summer Session only.
  5. Students taking classes for May Block only AND working at APU or on school related projects.
  6. Students taking classes for May Block only.
  7. Students working at APU or on school related projects.
  8. Students living in Anchorage this summer, but taking classes or be involved with APU related projects or work.

Summer Residents: Move-In Day

Move-in day for summer residents will be Thursday, May 1st. You cannot move into University Village before this date due to scheduled maintenance and cleaning. Students approved for Summer Housing may stay in their current residences till that (or earlier if cleaning is complete).

For those Currently Living in Segelhorst Hall

Cleaning of Segelhorst apartments will begin on Monday, April 28th. If you are approved to stay in your apartment for Summer Housing, you will still need to have your apartment tidy enough to allow for the custodial staff to do a deep clean of the apartment. For summer, you may be assigned to your current room or your room for next year, but we can not guarantee this. We will do our best to accommodate everyone and make the living arrangements as comfortable and consistent as possible.

Summer Housing Costs

Residents will be charged according to the costs indicated on the Housing Application based on length of stay. Students staying for a shorter duration will be charged at a rate of $150/week or $25/day on a space available basis. Again, please indicate your intentions on the Summer Housing Application form.
