Portfolio Development

The Portfolio Process

General Requirements: Assembling a portfolio is a creative process and each will be unique in content and style. However, students are asked to follow certain general requirements. This will assist your advisor and committee as they assess the completeness of the portfolio.

Portfolios may take the form of hard-copy text and documentation collected in a ringed binder or of a web-page or electronic document.

Hard Copy

Each portfolio should be in a ringed binder and have the following:

1. Title page
2. Table of contents which lists order of presentation
3. Labeled dividers to set apart each component which will be introduced by explanatory text
4. Optional plastic page sleeves, into which you may slip documenting artifacts
5. Narrative text using writing guidelines appropriate to your discipline
6. Support materials. When these include non-print materials (for instance, art work, videos) you should include "flat copies" (photographs of art work, descriptions of videos, etc.)

Web-Page or Electronic media

1. A disk or URL should be submitted to the advisor.
2. Required elements should be included in a form of your own choosing, which allows the reader ease of navigation.
