But whether you update an old resume or assemble one for the first time, you should take a look at sample resumes that APU's Career Advisor has created (see Appendix A :resume). Preferred styles and layouts change over time and some presentations are more effective than others, depending on how many or how few different job experiences you have had. Chronology of significant learning experiences: (link) Draw up a list of what seem to you to have been important learning opportunities and note why they were significant. They might include both formal and informal learning experiences. For instance, your earliest memory might go back to your first and only experience of camping out as a child but one which set the scene for your developing a passion for the outdoors many years later. This exercise often helps students decide on the direction they'd like their autobiographies to take, though it needn't. |
