Internship Opportunities

Identifying potential internship placements is one of the primary goals of the Career Services Office at Alaska Pacific University.

Below you'll find links for organizations offering placement opportunities in Alaska, the U.S. and the world. This list will be updated regularly, so keep checking back for the latest information.

Alaska Conservation Foundation
The Alaska Conservation Foundation (ACF) is offering 15 paid, conservation-related internships throughout Alaska in summer 2007. Positions include conservation biology, environmental education, environmental health, wildlife management, grassroots organizing, social marketing, energy efficiency, and more.
Positions are located in Anchorage, Cordova, Fairbanks, Gustavus, Haines, Homers, Juneau, Skagway, Sitka, and Yakutat. Each position pays a $4,000 stipend plus round trip transportation to the host location (up to $1,000).

Alaska Legislative Intern Program-UAS
Get a birds-eye view of how state government works, and be a part of the process in Juneau. Now open to APU students, this is an exciting placement with the Alaska State Legislature in Juneau open from January to May.
Available: 12 credits and $5,000. Information and applications are available at Career Services.

Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation
Each summer the APFC and its investment managers throughout the US and in the UK offer a variety of internships for Alaska students. These internships are primarily in business and investment related areas. All information about the program is at www.apfc.org. Recruitment bulletins are posted there beginning each January, with new listings through the spring term.

Alaska SeaLife Center
Spend your summer in Seward at this unique facility. U.S. Airforce Audit Agency - Contact Career Services for details. Flexible hours, good pay(GS-4/5), plus benefits while you learn and apply those Accounting (24 semester hours minimum) and/or Business Admin skills.

Center For Alaskan Coastal Studies
A nonprofit organization with a mission of fostering responsible interactions with our natural surroundings and generating knowledge of the marine and coastal ecosystems of Kachemak Bay through education, research, and stewardship programs. Internships and employment as Environmental Educators and Naturalists may be available.

CDS International
CDS International, now in its 37th successful year, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing and enhancing opportunities for Americans to participate in meaningful, practical training opportunities abroad. Opportunities include visa sponsorship and internship placement services (many are paid for 3-18 months), as well as study tours and seminars, in a variety of business, engineering and other technical fields in Germany, Argentina, Spain, Switzerland and Russia. Many internships are paid and last 3-18 months.

ECO (Environmental Career Organization)
ECO protects and enhances the environment by developing a learning network of diverse leaders who are catalysts for sustainability in their organizations, neighborhoods and regions, promoting careers, and inspiring individual action.

Institute for Experiential Learning - Internships in Washington, D.C.
The IEL program provides an excellent opporutnity for students to gain solid grounding and experience in the global environment that will shape their lives. Students in ALL majors are encouraged to apply. Summer application deadline is 1st week of March 2003. Fall deadline is 1st week of May 2003.

Institute of Indigenous Resource Management
Offers opportunities in Environmental Justice, Federal Facilities Cleanup and Indigenous Rights and Resources.

Outdoor JobNet - a leading online resource for outdoor education and recreation professionals in search of outdoor industry-related employment and internships.

Serve Alaska Youth Corps (SAYC) a part of AmeriCorps, serve Alaska’s youth and their communities while working on service projects throughout Alaska. Projects include trail maintenance and construction, U.S. Forest Service cabin maintenance, road and highway enhancements and stream restoration.

The Student Conservation Association.
The nation's leading provider of conservation service opportunities, outdoor skills and leadership training for young women and men. Every year, in all 50 states, thousands of high school, college, graduate students and others join together through SCA to care for our national parks and forests, historic and cultural resources, and urban green spaces. Alaska opportunties, too!

Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC)
Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) is offering internships for recent graduates, graduates, and undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing a career in environmental science. There are a number of projects available for interns: Global Change, Landscape Ecology, Ecology of Coastal, Ecosystems, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Education, Population and Community Ecology
